Kyasina is a rental platform that connects renters and landlords in Uganda. Our goal is to make renting easy and transparent for all involved.
We take your privacy seriously because trust is the foundation of what we are building. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
1. What we collect
We collect only what is necessary to run Kyasina safely and legally:
- Account information: your name, email address, phone number and password.
- Identity verification: government-issued ID, photo, and any documents we need to confirm you are who you say you are.
- Listing information: property descriptions, photos, location details, availability and pricing.
- Payment information: transaction records, billing details and payment confirmations. We do not store full card details - those are handled by our payment partners who are lincenced by the necessary authorities.
- Usage data: how you interact with the platform, device type, IP address, and log data.
- Communications: messages between renters and landlords made through Kyasina, and correspondence with our support team.
2. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Verify landlords and tenants, and keep fake listings and bad actors off the platform.
- Process bookings, rent payments, deposits and refunds.
- Help renters find suitable homes and landlords manage their listings.
- Send service-related messages (booking confirmations, payment receipts, security alerts) and marketing messages you have opted into.
- Detect fraud, prevent abuse and comply with legal obligations.
- Improve the platform based on how people use it.
We never sell your personal data.
3. Identity verification
Verification is what makes Kyasina different. When you submit an ID or verification photo, it is used only to confirm your identity. It is not displayed on your public profile, and other users cannot see your documents.
4. Who we share information with
We share information only where necessary:
- Payment providers: to process rent, deposits and other transactions.
- Verification services: to confirm identity documents securely.
- Service providers: hosting, analytics, customer support and security tools that help us run Kyasina.
- Authorities: when the law requires us to respond to a court order, regulator or lawful request.
- Other users: only the information needed for a booking - such as your name and contact details shared between a renter and landlord once a transaction is confirmed.
5. Where your data is stored
Your data is stored on secure servers operated by trusted providers. Because we use international cloud and payment services, some data may be processed outside Uganda. We put safeguards in place to protect your information wherever it is handled.
6. How long we keep your data
We keep your data only as long as we need it:
- For as long as your account is active.
- For any period required by law after a transaction is completed.
- After you delete your account, some information may be kept in anonymized or encrypted form for legal, tax or fraud-prevention purposes.
7. Your rights
You can:
- Access, correct or update your data from your account settings.
- Delete your account or request that we delete your personal data.
- Object to or limit certain uses of your data, such as marketing messages.
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent where we rely on it, such as for optional notifications.

8. Security
We use encryption, access controls and regular security reviews to protect your data. No system is perfect, and if we ever discover a data breach that affects you, we will notify you as required by law.

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in, remember your preferences and understand how the platform is used. You can manage cookies through your browser settings.
10. Children’s privacy
Kyasina is not intended for children under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you through the platform or by email.
