Does it cost anything to search or book a viewing?

Accepted Answer

No. Searching, saving favourites and scheduling viewings is completely free. We only charge a small platform fee after you have found and paid for a place you want to rent for longstay or shortstay. The platform fee you pay is to help us maintain and keep improving the platform to be even more helpful in future. All our fees are clearly indicated and itemised so that you can see everything and know how it adds up.

How do I know a listing is real?

Every listed property on kyasina is verified and the landlord or host is verified too. We check identity and ownership/responsibility and employ other measures to weed out fake listings and dishonest landlords/hosts. We do everything to protect you the tenant from being scammed or wasting your time. As long as you use the platform properly and avoid anything that takes off the platform, you can rest assured of a safe and protected dealing. In as much as we do all this, the risk of being scammed off-platform can not be contained. We advise you not to try leaving the platform  as that takes away all your protection measures.

What happens after I schedule a viewing?

In simple terms, scheduling a viewing is planning a time when you can go to see the place for inspection. You request is directly to the landlord to let them know you want to visit their specific listing, and they can confirm or adjust as well be prepared for your visit. Our support team helps remind both the landlords and tenants of their planned visit. Once you see the place and it meets your expectations, you go ahead and express your interest by submititng an application when you would want your lease to start and for how long it should run. Once the landlord approves your application, you can pay and then sign the contract. You pay and sign your contract in the platform to avoid any risk of an elaborate scam either after moving in, or before the lenght of your contract has run out. We hold your funds until you confirm that you have fully moved in and then release the money to the landlord. The landlords already know and agree to this, so there is no need to go off-platform to complete the deal since you will have exposed yourself to risk at the final moment. All these steps are there to make the process of renting as easy as possible, without ignoring the obvious risks involved in such big money transactions.

Can I rent without visiting the property first?

Accepted Answer

Shortstay properties do not involve you visiting the property for a viewing or inspection. Long stay properties have this visit to the property as part of the process. It is meant to help you get a proper feel of the place before committing to it in the long term. Therefore, while it is possible, we recommend you take some time to visit the place and only paying for it if you like it. In situations where you can't get to the place, having someone take a look on your behalf is a good alternative.

What if the 'landlord' says I should pay outside the app?

Accepted Answer

This is a clear sign of what we call off-platfrom behaviour and you should refuse and insist on paying through Kyasina.  This is a clear violation of our policy and processes, and a big red flag that you might be on the verge of being scammed of your money, or at the very best getting terms that are not like you originally saw on Kyasina. Of course, once you go off-platform, we have no way of helping you - internally or otherwise. When you pay thorugh the platform, it is you who will confirm that you have moved into the new place so that we can release the landlord's money which we hold for your safety. And the contract you sign via the platform is binding and no terms will be changed on you in a surprising manner.

What does Kyasina cost a landlord?

Accepted Answer

For a landlord, joining Kyasina and listing their properties is free. We only charge a commission of 8% once we are able to bring you a paying tenant. Our comission rate is matched with the standard broker commisison, but you get better visibility and an easy process to find tenants - due to our scale of marketing and brand. All our work is transaparent and our team is always available to support and help you at no cost. We believe it is fair that we work on a principle of WIN - WIN - WIN . For the tenant, you the landlord and us as Kyasina.

How long does verification take?

Accepted Answer

Verification often takes a few minutes to 1 or 2 days depending on the circumstances. The basic verification of the ID and phone number takes only a few minutes. Verification of ownership or responsibility is what could take a while depending on the situation. And of course, considering the time of day, since night time sign ups and adding of properties will have to wait a little bit until the morning. Can I manage a building with many units?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and easily. When you are adding a property, you can easily choose whether it has multiple units, or multiple room types (groupings) and set prices as you normally would. When a prospective tenants comes across your property, they will easily see how your multi-unit property is priced, and proceed according to what they want. What if a tenant pays late?

Kyasina as it works now only helps you as the landlord secure a tenant and collect the initial payment. Subsquent payments are not going through kyasina but you can still use it to communiccate with your tenants for things like maintenance and regular service. For a tenant who pays late, the approach will depend on what you agreed upon as per the contract (which is binding), and how you choose to deal with the situation. Some landlords who choose to fully manage theor properties thorugh kyasina will in the future be able to handle everything else in one place, including the payment reminders to their various tenants.

Which payment methods are supported?

We support various payment methods and you will be able to transact in familair and easy ways. We support mobile money (MTN & AIRTEL), Visa, Mastercard and bank transfer. All payments are processed safely by lincensed payment partners and providers, and each transaction generates an instant receipt.

Do I get receipts for rent and other payments?

Accepted Answer

Yes. And that is the beauty of a platform like Kyasina. Every transaction is stored and its lifecycle is tracked.  Whether you pay a deposits, platform fee, rent, or any other transaction on kyasina, your data is stored in your account and you can go back and see it. Most of the payments also trigger an email notification that is part of your proof. You no longer have to guess and ask people to remember, you have the facts on your side.

What does tenant verification involve?

Tenant verification just requires you to verify your national ID and a primary phone number. Tenant verification is slightly quicker than landlord verification since both the National ID and phone number can be verified within minutes. Some landlords might require or highly regard a recommendation from the tenant's previous landlord or place of residence, we ask tenants who can easily get a letter of recommendation to add it as they verify their accounts. This is not a requirement, but a nice to have, especially in some properties where there is quite the competition for space.

How do I report a problem with a listing or a user?

Question 14

Can I delete my account and data?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our privacy policy allows for you request a deletion of your account and the data related to you. You can formally request this and we'll comply. Since some of your interactions connect to other critical information for other users, that sort of information might be retained in accordance with the law and ensuring your complete disassociation. should you choose to remove your account and all the data, we shall assist you thorugh the entire process to your satisfaction.
